Downtown Women's Center Posting-LCSW


DWC seeks a full-time licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) to support the expansion and enhancement of DWC’s mental health services program. The LCSW will provide direct therapeutic services to women through one-on-one therapy and support groups and provide clinical oversight and supervision to staff and interns. The LCSW is a member of the Clinical Health Services team and will work in collaboration with other health professionals and report directly to the Clinical Program Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 Provide clinical therapeutic services to clients, including individual and group therapy and coordination of substance abuse and mental health treatment for participants with co-occurring disorders. Coordinate and collaborate with the health providers in the on-site clinic to improve health outcomes.
 Provide individual and group supervision of staff, interns, to Associate Clinical Social Workers, and volunteers who provide therapy, case management services, and facilitate support groups.
 Develop and maintain relationships with local universities that provide DWC with interns; assist with annual intern recruitment.
 Work to effectively meet client needs and resolve individual barriers through follow-up, advocacy and collaboration with DWC staff and community service providers. Participate in and/or facilitate team meetings.
 Monitor Individualized Service Plan progress in collaboration with Program teams.
 Maintain accurate and timely records of activities, case management notes, and services provided to each client.
 Provide crisis intervention and model de-escalation techniques as needed.
 Provide regular, written reports to the Clinical Program Manager and additional reports as assigned.
 Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the organization.

NECESSARY SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
 Master’s of Social Work degree preferred and current LCSW license in the State of California required
 Two years experience post licensure preferred
 Crisis intervention experience, and familiarity and comfort working with issues related to homelessness, substance abuse, mental health diagnosis, and history of trauma required
 Experience providing psychosocial assessments, individual therapy, group therapy, and/or supportive
counseling to individuals with complex mental health and medical issues required
 Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; proven ability to communicate with diverse audiences
 Strong administrative skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) required
 Criminal background check and clearance required
 Experience working in the medical social work or community mental health field preferred
 Experience working in a residential setting with adults with severe mental illness preferred
 Clinical and administrative supervision experience preferred
 Oral and written fluency in Spanish and English a plus

SCHEDULE AND SALARY: This is an exempt, full-time position. Office hours are 9:00am to 5:30pm, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary. Foster Family Case Manager (San Fernando Valley/Santa Clarita Areas) FT/40 hrs.  Provide services to children and families (caseload will be prorated based on hours worked per week, and may vary from 3-15 cases).  Supervise the placement for each assigned foster child and provide support for the child and foster parents.  This includes: Ensuring that each child's needs are met; Making sure that each foster home is in compliance with all Olive Crest Foster Family Agency policies, County policies and Title 22 policies; Instructing, counseling, training, and supporting foster parents in dealing with the foster child's needs and problems. Education Requirement: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following:  social work; social welfare; marriage, family and child counseling; child psychology; child development; counseling psychology; social psychology; clinical psychology; educational psychology; or education with emphasis on counseling.  Prior experience in FFA case management highly preferred.  Position will be assigned to work more predominantly in the northern part of LA County (San Fernando Valley/Santa Clarita areas).

The mission of the Downtown Women’s Center (DWC) is to provide permanent supportive housing and a safe and healthy community fostering dignity, respect, and personal stability, and to advocate ending homelessness for women. Founded in 1978, DWC was the first organization to exclusively serve mentally ill and elderly homeless women on Los Angeles’ Skid Row. The DWC Day Center now offers 85,000 meals, case management, and other supportive resources on a drop-in basis to 4300 homeless women each year, while the DWC Residence provides a permanent home and a range of services to 119 women who were once without safe, affordable housing. Position Summary
The Downtown Women’s Center seeks a full-time Benefits Case Manager to provide individualized benefits enrollment assistance and advocacy for homeless and low-income women. This position works to link women with public benefits programs for which they may qualify, including but not limited to SSI/SSDI, MediCal, Veterans Affairs and CalFresh benefits.  The Benefits Specialist is a member of the Clinical Health Services team and works as part of a team of case managers, clinicians, and health professionals at DWC to help women achieve and maintain personal stability.  This position reports directly to the Health Program Manager.

Essential Functions
·         Provide individualized, direct service to clients to assist them with the public benefits enrollment process at DWC and with partner agencies as assigned
·         Conduct assessments of benefits that participants and residents currently have and gaps in benefits; document these assessments in a system that enables ease of coordination
·         Research and obtain documentation necessary to support the application process.  Assist clients in securing documentation, including proof of identity, financial records and past and current medical and mental health records
·         Oversee all aspects of the benefits application process by providing case management, participating in multi-disciplinary team activities and case conferences, coordinating consents and releases, scheduling appointments, and communicating with staff at DWC and public agencies
·         Maintain contact with clients throughout the determination process, assist clients in responding to requests for further information to support the application process, assist with reconsideration filing when needed
·         Develop and maintain working relationships and serve as a liaison to the SSA, Disability Determination Service, County departments, and other public, private and non-profit agencies serving homeless individuals
·         Develop and provide staff regular trainings related to documenting disabilities, homelessness and other related areas that improve client outcomes
·         Collaborate with the case management team to maximize client linkage to services in the community
·         Conduct outreach and public education activities to the Day Center client base to encourage client access to public benefits
·         Provide general case management assistance to help clients resolve additional non-benefit related barriers as needed 
·         Maintain accurate and timely records of activities and services provided to each client, including client file maintenance, program tracking and reports
·         Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the organization

Necessary Skills/Qualifications:                                                             
·         Bachelor’s degree in social work, human resources or related field preferred
·         Two years experience working as a Case Manager/similar position with homeless, low-income, and/or disabled individuals preferred
·         Experience working with public agencies and assisting individuals in applying for public benefits preferred
·         Knowledge of medical terminology and experience in a healthcare setting preferred
·         Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; proven ability to communicate with diverse audiences
·         Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, including proficiency in balancing direct service responsibilities with effective record keeping
·         Must be able to work well independently and as part of a team
·         Strong administrative skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) required
·         Current valid California state driver’s license, insurance, and vehicle with good driving record

Job description:               Provide assessment and psychological interventions to clients with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse problems.  The Counselor will act as a liaison with clinic staff at the Screening, Triage, Assessment, and Referral (STAR) Program and Alcohol and Drug Program (ADP), to coordinate treatment recommendations for clients who screen positive for high risk substance abuse/dependence.

Responsibilities:              This position is in Ventura County.  The Counselor will provide structured assessment and interventions for substance users with co-occurring mental illness as part of a UCLA research study on Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment.  The Counselor will work 45% time (18 hours per week approximately).  Under the supervision of the Study Project Director and the Principal Investigators of the research study, the Counselor will provide screening for substance use using the ASSIST tool, a brief motivational interview intervention, and referral to treatment for subjects in treatment at a Ventura County mental health clinic setting.  The Counselor will work collaboratively with the Research Coordinator, clinic staff and Research Associates.  Community contacts shall include area social services agencies and private physicians.  The Counselor will perform data entry, code and send assessments and service records, and assist with other tasks as needed in the research project.
Qualifications:                  Candidate will have completed at a minimum a Masters Degree in either Social Work/Welfare or Psychology and be licensed or pursuing licensure in the State of California to provide clinical services.  Experience with dual diagnosis clients would be preferable, though not required.
