EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR/CEO
Los Alamitos Youth Center, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, is seeking a skilled individual to lead its operation. For 57-years the Youth Center has developed & delivered out-of-school social, recreational and educational activities.

THE POSITION

The Executive Director works under the direct supervision of the Board of Directors and has the leadership responsibility for the organization’s mission, strategic direction, financial stability, community relations, staffing, development, planning, training, facilities, operations, communications, and technology systems. The ED is also responsible for the implementation of policies adopted by the Board of Directors.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

FISCAL MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL
Leads in the development, monitoring and adjustment, and ongoing record keeping of the annual budget with the approval of the Board of Directors. (Desirable: Accounting and/or accounting software experience/skills)

FINANCIAL DEVELOPMENT
Responsible for securing adequate revenues to provide services consistent with annually established goals. (Desirable: Fundraising & grant writing skills/experience; contributed support is currently 35% of organizational revenue.)

PLANNING
Gives principal leadership to the development (and to staff involvement) in the execution of the organization’s annual operating plan. Gives leadership to the development of long range Strategic Plan every 3-5 years.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
Responsible for overall program growth and evaluation, special program thrusts, and innovative, experimental program efforts.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Responsible for overseeing all staff compensation, recruitment and training programs.

BOARD AND LAY DEVELOPMENT
Serves as staff officer to the Board of Directors and executive committee and ensures Board policies and management decisions are properly executed.

GENERAL ADMINISTRATION
Responsible for implementation of by-laws, policies, procedures, standards, priorities, and goals set forth by the Board of Directors. Responsible for public relations and maintaining relationships with the community, government agencies and the media.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The ED must have the competencies, skills and proven leadership ability to successfully carry out the organization’s mission, goals and vision for serving the community. This position requires a team player with the ability to effectively work with stakeholders in the community, members, staff and volunteers. A key competency requirement of the ED is the ability to attract, hire and retain a diverse and competent team of staff and volunteers; to create, shape and track the strategic direction and business plan against new and standing initiatives. Other important competencies of the ED/CEO include the following:

*Ability to understand change and lead the organization through change to growth and success;
*Sound grasp of the philosophy and principles of administration in a voluntary, service, educational non-profit agency committed to the greater good;
*Ability to interpret the mission, vision and goals of the organization and translate them into meaningful program thrusts;
*Thorough understanding of policy formulation processes and Board development;
*Solid foundation in financial development and annual support campaigns;
*Knowledge to bring new technology advantages, budget administration, records and information systems management to the organization;
*Proven success with a track record of creating, skillfully leading, organizing and overseeing staff and volunteers of high intelligence with diverse personalities;
*Ability to delegate work and assign task while putting into place solid administrative procedures to keep the organization’s operations running smoothly, efficiently and effectively;
*Skills that maximize efficiency of program directors responsible for managing their own operations and staffs.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience
A minimum of five years of proven experience as a leader with administrative and operational competencies in strategic planning, marketing, membership development, finance, administration, human relations, development and operations of nonprofit organizations serving youth.

Education
Degree with ongoing advanced formal study and training.
