Labor United for Universal Healthcare Posting


ADMINISTRATOR & PROJECTS COORDINATOR
JOB DESCRIPTION 
Definition:    Under general direction of the designated Co-chair or Steering Committee member of Labor United for Universal Healthcare, the Administrator & Projects Coordinator will be responsible for regular communications with affiliates/liaisons & activists, other labor and community organizations, and individuals seeking information and/or support; will coordinate projects including events & fundraisers; assist and help build organizational capacity; provide staff support to Steering Committee members & Committee Coordinators in carrying out their duties; and perform other related tasks.  The ideal candidate is a competent office professional with organizing experience, in either labor or community settings, or both.  Candidates must provide a brief writing sample, preferably something that has been published or disseminated (e.g., flyer, brochure, persuasive piece). 
Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate Speakers Program & trainings
  • Coordinate mobilization efforts
  • Coordinate volunteer activists
  • Coordinate special events
  • Coordinate outreach efforts
  • Coordinator fundraising efforts
  • Maintain database
  • Update website & Facebook page
  • Respond to inquiries and requests
  • Provide staff support to officers, coordinators and sub-committees
  • Develop educational materials (and coordinate their production)
  • Liaison to labor and community organizations, elected officials, also: State Strategy Group & Labor Campaign for Single-Payer (as needed)
  • Work with affiliates for timely annual re-affiliations
  • Bi-lingual (particularly Spanish) a plus 

Nature of Position:            This is currently a part-time position to begin in January 2012 or as soon as filled.  The position requires 24 hours per week, days to be scheduled after discussion with the Co-Chairs.  The position is salaried and therefore exempt from overtime provisions.  The position is based in Los Angeles.
 Salary and Benefits
  • Negotiable salary based on experience, salary history.
  • Two weeks of vacation per year.
  • Sick leave, for personal/family use, is accrued at one day/month and can be carried over but not cashed out.
  • Paid holidays will be the same as for the Union in whose building the office is located.
  • A supplemental health care fund to help cover health insurance premium costs will be paid monthly.
