Policy Specialist

Full-time; Hourly, Exempt

The Policy Coordinator plays a leadership role in advancing policy change through ANWOL public policy
initiative that seeks to protect and restore the civil and human rights or formerly incarcerated and convicted

Duties & Responsibilities

Legislative, Regulatory & Public Policy

* Develop, direct and implement a public policy team and activities, including advocacy priorities,

positions and strategies;

* Track public policy issues and decisions impacting at the local and state level and make

recommendations to advance priorities;

ÿ Build and nurture effective multi-cultural coalitions and alliances on priority issues and campaigns.

ÿ Lead he development and management of effective working relationships with key public officials at the

federal, state and local levels;

ÿ Coordinates with the Executive Director on policy advocacy communications including email alerts and

ÿ Attend national, state, and local events including panel, meetings, trainings, and conferences, as it

relates to policy agenda;

ÿ Assist in developing policy-related backgrounders, public testimony, talking points, letters and other

materials to support policy priorities.

ÿ Staff policy committees and work with committee leadership to set agenda, recruit speakers, develop

issue papers and engage members in policy priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

ÿ Bachelor degree in Public Policy, Public Administration or related field; or equivalent experience;

ÿ Knowledge of public policy advocacy, public policy research and analysis, leadership building, strategic

communications and laws;

ÿ Knowledge of reforming criminal justice policy;

ÿ Personal experiences with incarceration is valued but not required;

ÿ Excellent research, written and verbal communication skills;

ÿ Ability to explain clearly and persuasively, to experts and non-experts, ANWOL’s stance on public policy

ÿ Ability to work effectively both as a team and independently;

ÿ Knowledge of the criminal justice system, mass incarceration;

ÿ Passion for changing the obstruction and injustice of formerly incarcerated and convicted people.

Salary: Competitive starting salary based on experience, with availability of medical, dental, and vision
