American Cancer Society Position

*Bi-lingual and bi-cultural in Spanish is required.

The American Cancer Society, California Division, Inc. a community based, non-profit voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem, has an immediate opening for a Patient Navigator located on-site at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, CA. The Patient Navigator meets face to face with cancer patients and families to assist with navigating the Harbor UCLA system and to provide information about cancer the disease, ACS programs, services, and community resources available to them. Responsibilities include using tracking systems to assist with ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the Patient Navigator Program. The PN acts as a representative of the American Cancer Society and works cooperatively with the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Oncology Team, especially the Social Work Department. Additional responsibilities include assisting with recruiting, training and supervising volunteers who provide support to the Patient Navigator Program. The PN will also conduct follow up calls to patients and families to ensure the resources provided met their needs and to identify any additional needs.

Position Requirements

We’re seeking a candidate who is bi-lingual and bi-cultural in Spanish with 3-5 years experience working in a health care environment. Master’s degree in social work, public health, nursing, public administration or related field is preferred but not required. Ideal candidate possesses strong problem solving, relationship building, organizational, empathy, and advocacy skills, as well as thorough knowledge of health care systems, community resources, and medical terminology. Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations, as well as experience working with oncology patients and families is preferred. Must possess the ability to work independently and confidentially.
