Job Duties: Case management for young adults with schizophrenia. Provide
clinical services, complete research assessments, attend weekly
staff/team meetings, and present at bi-annual Family Psychoeducation
Meetings. Clinical services include group psychosocial training,
assertive individual case management, crisis management, and Individual
Placement and Support services (IPS); supportive individual, couples and
family therapy will be provided as needed. Utilize problem-solving
strategies to address work-place issues, provide job coaching, and
support in the community. Conduct diagnostic screenings of potential
normal control subjects to determine eligibility for the research
protocol, administer many clinical research measures of patient
symptomatology, work, and social functioning with demonstrated
reliability, and coordinating the interface between several research
projects and clinic participation are required. All clinical and
assessment duties will be specified according to the research protocol.
Interact with Program Director, Co-Director and supervisory staff, the
mental health treatment team, and family members as needed in order to
provide a fully integrated, direct-service approach. Travel using own
car is required to Los Angeles area hospitals and clinics to recruit,
screen, and conduct diagnostic interviews with acutely ill psychiatric
patients. This employee will make weekly contact with mental health
agencies to build a more established recruitment base for patients
eligible for services at the UCLA Aftercare Research Program. Will
attend monthly community meetings in order to build a resource base for
screening eligible patients. Emergency on-call responsibility on
weekdays, nights, and on weekends on a rotating basis is required. A
flexible schedule with some evening and/or weekend work is required.

Job Qualifications: Required: Masters or BA in Psychology or related
field is strongly preferred. The demonstrated ability to provide case
management, individual psychotherapy, and group psychotherapy to
individuals with severe mental illness is required. Excellent
interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to: (1) interact with
individuals who have psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, their
family members, and community comparison control subjects from diverse
backgrounds and of varying age, (2) effectively interact with peers,
co-workers, and an interdisciplinary professional staff, (3) and
carefully and sensitively administer research measures to psychiatric
patients, and community control subjects. Demonstrated ability to: (1)
work independently, professionally and cooperatively within a large
multidisciplinary clinical research project; (2) recruit, consent, and
schedule research and control subjects; (3) carefully maintain research
records; (4) use of personal computer (PC) software including Microsoft
Office (Word, Excel). Proven highly developed organizational skills and
attention to detail; excellent oral and written communication skills; to
follow through on assignments to completion in a timely manner, to
prioritize tasks with fluctuating and competing deadlines, and to
maintain a calm demeanor with interruptions and changing priorities
during the course of busy clinic days are required. Own automobile and
proof of auto insurance required. Bilingual, English-Spanish preferred,
but not required.
