2009 SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

 Two summer internships, with stipends of $1500 each
 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

 

Under supervision of the WHWS Clinical Director, and with direction from the Executive Director and the social work staff, Summer Interns will have the following duties and responsibilities:

 

Primary Duties (Macro/Mezzo):

Family Court Advocacy Project (FCAP) Assistant—including conducting/ supervising court observations for domestic violence research project, conducting data entry & analysis, research assistance for preparation of Toolkit for domestic violence survivors involved in Family Court, and assistance in grant research and preparation for FCAP.

Grant Writing—researching funding opportunities and grant preparation/ writing, in collaboration with Clinical Director, Ava Rose and Executive Director, Hillary Selvin;

Volunteer Recruitment (especially bilingual) for the WHWS Counseling Talkline;

Primary Duties (Clinical/Mezzo):

Co-Facilitation of Support Groups—co-facilitate one or more support groups for teen girls, adult women and/or parents, as assigned by the Clinical Director.

Individual/ Family Counseling—provide short-term counseling for 1-2 individual or family clients, as assigned by Clinical Director.

Talkline Supervision—under direction of Clinical Social Work staff, provide supervision, support and resource/ referral assistance to Talkline Counselors during 2-3 Talkline Shifts per week.

Additional Duties:

Community-based program development for local school- and shelter-based programs as needed (may include research and development of group curriculum for teens, development of human trafficking outreach program, etc.);

Community outreach & networking, as needed, including attending local interagency councils, LA &/or West Hollywood human services meetings, NCJW & community advocacy events, and other community forums.

QUALIFICATIONS

Current M.S.W. student status at accredited university.  One (1) year of responsible relevant field experience in social work clinical and/or community-based practice.  General knowledge of grant related activities required. Computer literate with good written and verbal skills.  Valid Drivers License and automobile insurance required. Bilingual Spanish preferred.
